This book was originally designed by photographer, John Gossage, as a soft cover perfect bound publication. He came to Raul Jarquin looking for a way to make the binding more substantial and unique.  Raul took Gossage's files and re-worked them so that the book could be done in sections as a hand sewn book with fabric custom printed hard covers and specially treated end sheets.

M. Keck Observatory, and Mauna Kea Observatories.

The idea for Friday Class was born by artist, Rex Weil in 1992.  Many of the images in the book are by artist and photography professor Page Carr. 

In 1993, the class was awarded a City Arts grant from the District of Columbia Commission on the Arts and Humanities. The class has received support from the commission every ensuing year. Co-instructor, Stephanie Ney, joined Rex shortly after the class was founded and worked as an integral part of the class through 2005. Students pay no tuition and the class is run as a professional studio class.

The book came to Raul Jarquin (FolioLink Press) as a collaborative project with Dadaville Press and designer Reese Puglisi. The Friday Class book was printed in an Indigo digital press and the book block and soft covers were bound using a PUR perfect binding machine. The book is available in a limited edition of 75 copies.
